Watching the weather…
Numbers…
Numbers can be used in nature journals to record
the date and time,
note measurements of found objects, or estimate size of observed objects,
and provide details regarding weather conditions such as temperature, winds and tides.
This site provides information on weather conditions and tides based on zip codes:
https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/
Here is some great background information about tides:

When doing nature study at the beach, knowledge of the tides can be very helpful.
It can be very interesting for children to go to the same beach area during high and low tides, and in different seasons, or weather conditions, and notice differences.
Helping your children to find ways to include numerical observations as they nature journal will encourage them see themselves as scientist.
As students record weather conditions they may become interested in learning more about weather related topics like weather forecasting, various weather conditions, and clouds forms.
